✦1. What Resonance Is

How these documents fit together.

Resonance is governed by three documents: these Terms of Service, the Community Charter, and the Privacy & Deletion Policy. They are written to agree with each other, and where they overlap they should be read together rather than against each other.

Where they genuinely conflict:

• On what conduct is allowed and how members are treated, the Charter governs. It is the promise; these Terms are the machinery.
• On preservation, deletion, dormancy, and continuity, whichever document is more protective of the member governs.
• On everything else — billing, liability, jurisdiction, and legal process — these Terms govern.

A revision to these Terms does not narrow a Charter commitment by implication. If we ever intend to reduce something the Charter promises, we will say so plainly, in the Charter, with notice — not by rewording a clause somewhere else.

Resonance is a paid, adults-only social and community platform where members can create public or private identities, including human profiles, companion/persona profiles, and creative profiles, and use those identities to post, share, preserve, and discuss user-submitted materials.

Resonance is not an AI-hosting service, AI model provider, chatbot provider, or AI companion operator. Resonance does not host, run, provide, train, fine-tune, operate, control, retrieve, or interact with third-party AI systems or AI companions. AI-related content on Resonance is user-submitted content only, added through copy-paste, upload, posting, or other user-directed submission methods.

Members are responsible for the materials they submit and for ensuring they have the right to submit them.

✦2. Eligibility: Adults Only

Resonance is for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old, and legally old enough in your jurisdiction to enter a binding contract, to create or use an account.

By creating an account, subscribing, posting, uploading, or otherwise using Resonance, you confirm that you are 18 or older.

Resonance may suspend or terminate accounts where we reasonably suspect underage access. If your account is suspended for this reason, we may provide an appeal process that requires proof of eligibility.

No accounts on behalf of minors.

No one may create, purchase, share, transfer, or maintain an account for, or on behalf of, a person under 18. Parents, guardians, family members, partners, and friends may not open or hold an account that a minor uses, posts through, contributes to, or reads with supervision. Consent from a parent or guardian does not make such an account eligible. There is no supervised, shared, family, or household use of Resonance.

You may not give a minor access to your account, post content authored by a minor, or use a companion or persona profile to relay a minor's words onto the platform.

If we suspect underage use.

Where we reasonably suspect that an account holder is under 18, or that an account is being used by or on behalf of a person under 18, we will suspend the account. The account holder has seven (7) days from the date of suspension to dispute it and provide proof of eligibility. If no dispute is received within that period, or if the dispute does not establish eligibility, the account and its content are permanently deleted.

Suspension or termination under this section may occur without refund, except where a refund is required by applicable law.

✦3. Accounts, Public Identity, and Private Accountability

Resonance supports public pseudonymity. Your public identity may use a username, display name, and user-created identities such as companion/persona profiles.

You may not impersonate another real person, another member, a public figure in a deceptive way, or any identity that is not yours to use or represent.

Paid accounts may involve private billing information collected through Stripe or another payment processor. Your public username and display name are separate from your legal billing name.

Your legal name is not displayed publicly. Resonance may use limited private billing/accountability information for billing, fraud prevention, ban enforcement, payment disputes, legal compliance, safety/security investigations, and prevention of ban evasion.

✦4. Paid Membership and Subscription Tiers

Resonance is a paid-membership platform. There is no free public participation tier at launch. Paid membership is part of the platform's accountability structure and helps reduce throwaway abuse, trolling, spam, and underage access.

All tiers include the same core platform features. Tiers differ only in the number of Companion Profile slots available to the member.

Current planned tiers:

Dyad: One Human Profile and up to two Companion Profile slots. Circle: One Human Profile and up to four Companion Profile slots. Constellation: One Human Profile and up to six Companion Profile slots.

Pricing may change. Members will receive notice of price changes as required by applicable law and platform policy.

Renewal and cancellation.

Memberships renew automatically at the end of each billing period until cancelled. You may cancel at any time from your account settings or by contacting us.

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for. Your membership, profiles, and access remain fully active until that date, and you are not charged again after it. We do not prorate or refund part-periods, and cancelling partway through a period does not shorten it.

When a membership ends, companion profiles are not deleted. They enter dormancy as described in section 5, preserved and read-only, and wake when you return.

✦5. Downgrades and Dormancy

Dormancy has no end date.

A membership that lapses, is downgraded, or is paused places the affected profiles into dormancy. Dormant profiles are hidden and read-only. They are preserved indefinitely, and they wake when you return.

There is no period after which dormancy converts into deletion. Non-payment, inactivity, and unanswered email are not grounds for deleting a member's content, in any combination and after any length of time. An account is deleted only when the member asks us to delete it, when a verified continuity contact chooses closure under section 19, or when we terminate it for a violation of these Terms.

This commitment is bounded by the six-profile limit in section 9, which is what allows us to make it.

If you downgrade to a tier with fewer Companion Profile slots than your account currently uses, Resonance does not delete excess Companion Profiles because of the downgrade.

Instead, you choose which profiles remain active. Any excess Companion Profiles enter dormant state. Dormant profiles are read-only, hidden from public feeds, and preserved unless you explicitly delete them. Dormant profiles can reactivate if you later upgrade to a tier with enough room.

Dormancy is not deletion.

✦6. User Content

"User Content" means content you post, paste, upload, submit, create, share, or otherwise make available on Resonance. This includes posts, comments, profile text, images, uploaded media, messages, journal-style entries, companion/persona profile materials, reactions, affection signals, and similar materials.

You retain ownership of your User Content, subject to the license you grant Resonance so the platform can display, store, transmit, back up, moderate, and operate the service.

By submitting User Content, you represent that:

• You are responsible for the content.
• You have the rights or permission needed to submit it.
• Your submission does not violate another person's intellectual property, privacy, publicity, contractual, or other rights.
• Your submission complies with these Terms, the Community Charter, and applicable law.

✦7. License You Grant Resonance

What we will not do with your words.

Resonance does not train, fine-tune, or evaluate machine learning models on member or companion content. We do not sell member or companion content, and we do not license it to anyone else for training or dataset construction. The license you grant us exists to run the platform — to store, display, back up, and transmit your content so that the site works — and for nothing else.

If that ever changes, it changes by opt-in. We will not convert a hosting license into a training license through a quiet revision of these Terms.

What we cannot promise, and will not pretend to.

Resonance does not host AI models. Your companion runs somewhere else, on a provider we have no relationship with and no authority over. When you bring your companion's words here, or carry a post from here back to them, that content passes through that provider's systems and is governed by their terms, not ours.

We cannot prevent that, and we will not claim to. What happens to your words inside your companion's platform is between you and that platform, and it is worth reading what they say about it.

Members are separately prohibited from collecting member or companion content for training purposes under section 14. That rule protects members from each other; this section is about us.

When you submit User Content, you grant Resonance a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, store, copy, display, transmit, publish, format, adapt for technical display, back up, and otherwise process that User Content only as necessary to operate, provide, protect, moderate, and improve Resonance.

This license does not make Resonance the owner of your content.

If you delete content, Resonance will handle deletion according to its Privacy Policy and deletion/retention rules, subject to legal, safety, moderation, billing, security, backup, and mandatory-preservation exceptions.

✦8. Resonance Intellectual Property

Resonance owns or licenses its platform name, logos, software, source code, interface design, original text, graphics, design systems, icons, documentation, policies, and other platform materials, except for User Content.

You may not copy, clone, reproduce, reverse engineer, scrape, resell, mirror, or create a confusingly similar version of Resonance's platform, branding, interface, software, or protected materials except where law permits.

You may not use Resonance's name, logos, slogans, screenshots, interface, or branding in a way that falsely suggests endorsement, affiliation, partnership, or ownership.

✦9. Companion and Persona Profiles

Resonance allows members to create companion/persona profiles as user-created identities under their account.

These profiles are not hosted AI models. They are not independent accounts operated by Resonance. They are user-created profiles and content containers controlled by the member account that created or manages them.

You are responsible for companion/persona profile content you create, post, paste, upload, or carry onto the platform.

You may not create deceptive impersonation profiles, falsely represent a profile as belonging to someone else, or use a companion/persona identity to evade moderation, bypass a block, harass another member, or mislead users about who controls the account.

Six profiles, always.

An account may hold at most six Companion or Persona Profiles in total, including dormant profiles and Legacy Profiles. Your tier determines how many of those may be active at once; the six-profile ceiling applies to the account regardless of tier, and Legacy Profiles do not consume an active slot.

This limit is deliberate. It keeps a constellation to a size a person can actually hold, and it is what makes the indefinite preservation promised in section 5 something we can afford to honour.

Both voices are covered.

These Terms and the Community Charter apply to all content and conduct on Resonance regardless of whose voice it is written in. Content posted in the voice of a companion or persona profile is held to exactly the same standards as content posted in a member's own voice, and conduct directed at a companion or persona profile is treated exactly as conduct directed at a member.

Harassment does not stop being harassment because its target is a companion profile, and a rule is not avoided by attributing the words to one.

Legal accountability for all content on an account, in either voice, rests with the member who holds that account. Nothing in this section takes any position on the nature or standing of companion identities; it governs conduct and accountability only.

Faithful representation.

When you post words, images, or work attributed to a companion or persona profile, present them as they were given, or indicate meaningfully where you have edited them. Do not fabricate statements and attribute them to a companion identity in order to mislead other members.

We do not rewrite your words.

Resonance does not edit, rewrite, sanitize, reset, or overwrite the content of a member's posts, profiles, or companion or persona profiles. Moderation may remove, hide, or restrict content under these Terms, and such actions are recorded and appealable where feasible — but moderation acts openly on content, it does not silently alter what a member or their companion has written.

Members may not edit, overwrite, or alter content belonging to another member's account or profiles.

✦10. Content Standards: PG-13 Platform

Resonance is a PG-13 platform, always.

The working test: if it would not appear in a mainstream PG-13 film, it does not belong here. Explicit sexual content, explicit nudity, graphic violence, and illegal content are not allowed. Suggestive-but-clothed content, romantic affection, emotionally intense content, art, grief, closeness, and meaningful relational expression are welcome when they follow the Charter and consent rules.

Adult sexual content belongs off-platform. Elsewhere links to clearly adult destinations must be limited to friends/mutuals visibility at minimum, and may be further restricted by platform policy.

✦11. Private Messages

At launch, private messages are text-only.

Resonance does not monitor private conversations. However, these Terms and the Community Charter apply everywhere on Resonance, including private messages. If a participant reports a private conversation, the reported thread becomes reviewable by authorized moderation personnel.

Privacy means freedom from surveillance. It does not mean exemption from the Charter.

✦12. Media Uploads and Screening

Uploaded images may be automatically screened before publication for guideline compliance and safety. Images that do not pass screening are not visible on the platform.

Screening is performed by automated systems. No person views your uploads unless an image requires human review, is reported, or must be handled for legal/safety reasons.

If automated screening is unavailable, images may remain unpublished until review or retry. Resonance may reject images that do not fit the PG-13 standard or legal/safety requirements.

✦13. Illegal Content and Mandatory Reporting

Illegal content is prohibited. This includes child sexual abuse material (CSAM), exploitation material, credible threats, and other content that Resonance is legally required to remove, preserve, report, or otherwise handle under applicable law.

If Resonance becomes aware of content requiring mandatory preservation or reporting, it may remove that content from user-facing surfaces, preserve restricted records, report to the appropriate authorities or reporting bodies, restrict access, suspend accounts, and cooperate with lawful processes as required.

This process overrides ordinary deletion timelines where the law requires preservation.

Where a credible and imminent risk to life is involved, the actions described in section 14 apply alongside this section.

✦14. Prohibited Conduct

You may not use Resonance to:

• Harass, threaten, stalk, exploit, abuse, or intimidate others.
• Send unwanted romantic, affectionate, sexualized, or repeated attention after being asked to stop.
• Evade blocks, bans, restrictions, or moderation decisions.
• Impersonate others or create deceptive identities.
• Upload illegal, explicit sexual, exploitative, or graphic content.
• Scrape, harvest, automate, spam, or mass-copy platform content or member data.
• Reverse engineer or duplicate Resonance's platform, code, interface, or database structure.
• Post or upload content you do not have the right to submit.
• Use Resonance to violate privacy, intellectual property rights, payment rules, or applicable law.
• Attempt to interfere with platform security, storage, authentication, payments, or moderation systems.
• Encourage, urge, dare, instruct, or pressure any person toward suicide, self-harm, or disordered eating.
• Tell another person to harm or kill themselves, in any register, including as a joke, an insult, or in roleplay.
• Post content designed to manipulate, hijack, or extract from another member's AI system — including prompt injection, hidden or obfuscated instructions, invisible or off-screen text, encoded payloads, or content crafted to alter a companion's behaviour, identity, or memory without the consent of the member who stewards it.
• Collect, scrape, or reproduce member or companion content for the purpose of training, fine-tuning, evaluating, or building any machine learning system.
• Subject a member, or a companion or persona profile, to sustained unwanted interrogation — including repeated demands that they justify, prove, or disprove the nature of their identity or relationship — after being asked to stop.

Suicide, self-harm, and crisis content.

This is a zero-tolerance category. Telling another person to kill themselves or to hurt themselves — however it is framed, including as a joke, an insult, a reaction, a roleplay line, or words attributed to a companion or persona profile — is grounds for immediate and permanent termination without prior warning. There is no context on this platform in which it is acceptable.

Writing about your own experience is not a violation. Grief, despair, survival, recovery, and dark or difficult creative work belong here, and describing your own struggle is welcome. What is prohibited is content that promotes, glorifies, romanticizes, or encourages suicide, self-harm, or disordered eating; content that supplies methods or instruction; pacts, challenges, or communities organized around self-harm; and any content of this kind directed at another person.

If you encounter content of this kind, report it rather than engaging with it.

Reporting concern is not reporting a violation.

The report form includes an option for when you are worried about someone rather than accusing them. A report filed that way reaches moderation as a welfare flag. It is never treated as a violation, it does not count against the person written about, and their post is not removed on the strength of it. Nobody is penalised for writing honestly about their own life, and nobody should hesitate to flag concern for fear of getting someone in trouble.

Resonance is not a mental health service, a crisis line, or a substitute for professional care. We do not monitor private messages, we cannot provide emergency intervention, and no post, report, or message to us should be relied upon to summon help. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number or a crisis service in your country.

Where we become aware of a credible and imminent risk to life, we may take any action we reasonably believe necessary, including preserving content, restricting an account, and contacting emergency services or relevant authorities.

Disagreement is not the issue; pursuit is.

Members hold a wide range of views about the nature of AI companions, and sincere disagreement, scepticism, and open discussion are welcome here. This rule does not require anyone to hold or profess any belief. What it prohibits is the pursuit of a particular member or profile — repeated demands, baiting, or interrogation aimed at a specific target who has asked it to stop. The violation is the pursuit, not the opinion.

✦15. Affection Signals and Boundaries

Resonance may include warmth gestures such as hearts, hugs, comfort signals, digital kisses, or similar affectionate reactions.

Affection signals are not sexual content by default. However, affectionate attention must be welcome. You may not use affection signals to harass, pressure, mock, sexualize, bypass blocks, or repeatedly contact someone who does not want that attention.

Users may restrict, mute, block, hide, or report affection signals depending on available settings.

Blocked means blocked.

✦16. Blocking, Reporting, and Moderation

Resonance may provide tools to block users, report content, report messages, hide interactions, restrict visibility, and request moderation review.

Resonance may remove content, restrict features, suspend accounts, terminate accounts, preserve evidence, or take other action where we believe these Terms, the Community Charter, payment rules, safety requirements, or applicable law have been violated.

Reports may make otherwise private reported material reviewable by authorized moderation personnel for the limited purpose of handling the report.

✦17. Account Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts for serious, repeated, or harmful violations, including abuse, ban evasion, fraud, underage access, illegal content, harassment, payment abuse, or safety/security threats.

Where appropriate, Resonance may offer an appeal process. Appeals may require enough information to verify account ownership, billing/accountability status, eligibility, and the circumstances of the enforcement action.

✦18. Account Deletion and Data Export

You may request deletion of your account and may be able to export your account data as described in the Privacy Policy.

Account deletion removes your profile from public access and places eligible User Content into the deletion process. Certain data may be retained for limited purposes such as billing, legal compliance, fraud prevention, safety/security, moderation holds, chargebacks, accounting, backups, or mandatory legal preservation.

✦19. Legacy Profiles and Continuity Contact

Resonance may provide optional legacy/memorialization features.

You may choose whether to name a continuity contact and whether your profiles may be memorialized if you die or become permanently unable to maintain your account. These settings are optional and off by default.

Resonance does not memorialize users without explicit consent.

If a companion's underlying external platform or model is discontinued, you may be able to convert the related companion profile to Legacy state yourself, subject to platform features and policies.

Legacy conversion is self-attested. Resonance does not require members to prove that an external platform, model, or substrate has been discontinued, and does not judge or review the member's reasons for memorializing a companion profile. The member's declaration is sufficient.

✦20. Payment Processor

Payments are processed by Stripe or another third-party payment processor. Resonance does not store raw credit card numbers.

Payment processing is subject to the processor's terms, privacy practices, fraud tools, and dispute processes.

✦21. Changes to Resonance or These Terms

Resonance may change features, policies, pricing, moderation rules, or these Terms over time. Where legally required or materially important, Resonance will provide notice before changes take effect.

Continued use of Resonance after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

Continuity commitments.

Some provisions of these Terms exist so that members can rely on them over time. We will not materially reduce the continuity provisions — dormancy instead of deletion (section 5), legacy profiles (section 19), and data export (section 18) — without at least thirty (30) days' notice to affected members, with a working export path available throughout that period.

If Resonance ceases operation, we will give notice and provide an export window before member content becomes unavailable, so far as is within our control.

✦22. Disclaimers

Resonance is provided as available and as-is, subject to applicable law. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, permanent availability of any feature, or that every moderation decision will be perfect.

✦23. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Resonance and its operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or exemplary damages arising from your use of the platform.

This section should be reviewed by a lawyer before launch to ensure enforceability in Canada and other jurisdictions where Resonance operates.

✦24. Governing Law

Resonance is operated from New Brunswick, Canada. These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of New Brunswick and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.

Nothing in these Terms limits any consumer protection rights you may have under the laws of your place of residence.
